Welcome to Šmarje Chili & BBQ Fest! After a few years' break, we are returning to Šmarje pri Jelšah, where we will celebrate our love for spicy cuisine, socializing, and unforgettable experiences together. Mark your calendars: September 5, 2026!
PROGRAM EVENT
🔥 12:00 – Opening of the Chili Market, Chili con Carne cooking and culinary programme
Join us for a culinary adventure and watch talented chefs in action while exploring a variety of spicy delights at the Chili Market. West Saloon Steakhouse and Mexican Luiz Zenteno will add the finishing touch to an unforgettable culinary experience.
🔥13:00 – Festival Opening Ceremony
Welcome speeches and the official opening of the festival.
Opening of the chili plant exhibition.
Cultural programme.
Display of the best entries from the children’s chili-growing competition, followed by the award ceremony.
🎈14:00–17:00 – Children’s Program
A fun-filled programme with creative workshops, exciting activities and special surprises for our youngest guests.
🍲15:00 – Lunch: Chili con Šmarje
Enjoy a delicious lunch and indulge in the fiery flavours of the Chili & BBQ Fest. Taste the Šmarje Chili con Carne, treat your taste buds to the specialities of West Saloon Steakhouse, and experience authentic Mexican cuisine prepared by Mexican chef Luiz Zenteno.
🎶 17:00 – Country Dance Workshop with Wild West Dance School
Step into the world of country music, learn the moves of line dancing and join the Wild West Dance School for a fun-filled dance experience.
🌶️ 18:00 – Golden Habanero Competition with the League of Fire
Get ready for a truly fiery spectacle! The bravest chili lovers will compete for the prestigious title of Golden Habanero.
🎶 19:00 – Party with a DJ and Wild West Dance School
Wrap up the day in true festival style with great music, dancing and an unforgettable atmosphere.

The festival will feature energetic music and an entertaining programme in collaboration with the WILD WEST country dance school.

Admire stunning classic cars that captivate with their history, design, and unique character.
An exhibition featuring 70 different chili pepper varieties.
In addition to the exhibition, chili experts will offer visitors engaging talks and valuable tips on growing, using, and the effects of chili peppers.
Children’s Corner
Even the youngest visitors can enjoy the festival in a special children's corner with various activities and workshops.
Children’s Chili-Growing Competition 🌶️🏆
The youngest participants will show how well they have cared for their chili plants and compete for fantastic prizes!
